Make your learning go further
Learning a language can be a captivating experience but retaining the information can also be hard, so here I have compiled a list of ways to enhance your language learning.
- Games Playing games in different languages is a fun way to learn- many apps have a ‘set language’ setting, where you can opt for a different language, which allows you to learn, while you play.
- Articles and stories- these can be of news-related matters or short stories and tales, in the set language. Even if you don’t understand everything, it’s okay, as you may be able to discern the meaning through surrounding words- which shall strengthen your understanding.
- Watch- be that by watching shows, movies or videos can help you learn how to speak more fluently, with the correct pronunciation and you can even learn idioms too. Choose to put the subtitles on, if you like in either the set language or your own or even both.
- Songs- Namely children’s songs, help to make things stick and aid with learning because of the catchy phrases and tunes. Try listening to your favourite song in a different language and see how much you learn.
- Note-taking- When note-taking, say for work or school, try noting down in the set language, even if it is just a few key words- it may save time too but it will allow you to strengthen your understanding, as you jump from one language to the other and help you to remember words, as you read back.
