Here are a few phrases you may need to speak basic Turkish.

There are 29 letters in the Turkish alphabet- all of the standard English alphabet (excluding Q, W and X) with an addition of Ç, Ğ, İ (one I with a dot and without), Ö, Ş, and Ü.

Merhaba- Hello

Selam- Hi

Nasilsiniz or nasilsin (Informal)?- How are you?

Iyim- I’m good

Yadım et- Help me

Lütfen- Please

Teşekkurler ederim/ teşekkurler- Thank you

Sağol- Thanks

Hoşçakal- Bye

Notes:

Generally, Turkish is said how it is seen but…

ğ- Is silent and stretches the vowels.

ş- Is a ‘sh’ sound.

ç- Is a ‘J’ sound.
