Can You Sacrifice Your Desires For God?

We all have our desires, whims and wants but sometimes, they are a detriment to us. Providing no benefit and yet we crave them. We know it would be better if we gave them up and yet we keep returning back, as if this time, the outcome shall be different. Shall be better and worth it.
Yet, in reality, abstaining from things that only lead you to nowhere good is the better cause of action.
This, of course, is not always easy. If it was, you may have already quit the vices that entrap you.
The solution?
Reframe how you see it. Remember that God sees all you do. Recognise why the habit is bad for you.
But ultimately, do it because when you give something up for the sake of God, it shall be replaced with something better.
We only have one shot at life but so many chances to correct our ways.
Life is not supposed to be easy because if it was, how would our faith be tested? Every struggle you have is a chance to prove yourself.
Your love for the things of this earth ought to dull in comparison to the love you have for the One who created all.
And don’t forget that where there is more struggle for good, there is more reward.
So, will you sacrifice your desires for God?
Or will you let them eat you whole?
قُلْ إِنَّ صَلَاتِى وَنُسُكِى وَمَحْيَاىَ وَمَمَاتِى لِلَّهِ رَبِّ ٱلْعَـٰلَمِينَ ١٦٢
-Say, “Surely my prayer, my sacrifice, my life, and my death are all for Allah — Lord of all worlds.”
