Harry Potter #2 Book Review
About time I read this.
Thanks again go to Sufyain for gifting me this book; a book opens portals and doors (quite literally in this book too) into the unknown and I thank you for allowing me to go on this journey of magic, sorcery and whimsy.
This is the second of seven installments to the acclaimed Harry Potter series and steps foot deeper into the world of Hogwarts. It does get darker. But light always shines through.
There are a few things that stuck with me in this book:
(Please be aware there are minor spoilers detailed below.)
- Tom Riddle and the diary. I mean, finding a diary that transports you in time and having it write back to you is pretty cool. Or maybe more so to a crazed bookworm who would love for that to happen to her. The element of Tom Riddle was done nicely- ‘anyone can be anything, be that good or evil’ is a message underlying that. I feel like we are going to delve more into the elements of a hero and villain, which is always interesting.
- The similarities between Voldemort and Harry Potter held little disparity and I see that lending to how the forces of good and evil will further be examined in the books to come. The fact that one is a ‘Dark Lord’ and the other a ‘Chosen One’, it will be interesting to see that dynamic develop.
- Me being me, I love the study of nomenclature and some of the names in the book were very fitting and you appreciate them more when they hold meanings that mirror an individual’s demeanour.
- The escapism offered in this book is of a rich quilty and I will always treasure that feeling of adventuring in different worlds.
- Like the last, this novel is fast-paced and the writing flows effortlessly. Yes, it’s simple, unlike my preferred style of flowery prose, but it works and complements the story well enough.
- The bravery and friendship these characters have is something admirable and sweet to see- working together and taking risks just gives a thrill of its own.
- I felt this book was a little more mysterious and ominous but it made it all the more enticing.
And that’s all my mind has thought of but one thing I know is that I eagerly await my next read.
Happy reading and writing!
