Harry Potter #5 Book Review
“According to Madam Pomfrey, thoughts could leave deeper scars than almost anything else.”
*Spoilers Ahead*
The fifth book in the series is also the largest, filled with equal parts peril, danger, magic and adventure.
We saw the arrival of Dolores Umbridge, who I disliked greatly- how she was allowed in a school was beyond me but the retaliation against her was great to see. I was relieved when she left. Yet, not all new characters were awful; Luna Lovegood was an instant favourite. I loved her demeanour and ways, even if they were seen as ‘loony’. She had a lovely aura about her and helped Harry in a selfless manner.
There are many twists and turns in this one, some more painful than others. Sirius cannot be dead! I mean NOOO! It did come as a shock. A painful one to say the least. And for Harry, who has only got to know him- I can’t imagine the pain.
*Sits for a bit contemplating it.*
Yet, a better twist was when the twins left the school in true style- it was enjoyable to see it happen and had me grinning. The circumstances granted their rebellious acts after all.
What I really appreciated, even in the last book, was the highlighting of how news and lies can run rampant. I liked how it mirrors real-life scenarios with how the news has its own agenda and it will push whatever it wants, regardless of the weight or truth.
A surprise even to myself was that I actually liked Snape in this one and felt sympathy for the man. Which I have been struggling to see in the last books. Sure, he was still a miserable man, but maybe the memories Harry glimpsed made me feel sorry for him.
The reveal of the prophecy was intriguing and Rowling revealed it in a compelling manner; a question that has been lingering in the background for a good while. And now with the final two books upon us, this prophecy may come to pass.
