A book review #HP3

“I solemnly swear that I am up to no good.”

*Near the end of this review especially, spoilers are present- so beware.*

I finally got around to buying the rest of the series, much to Sufyain and Katherine’s delight and back at it with a review!

The third book follows our wizarding trio in their third year at Hogwarts, as they face more threats at every corner while uncovering secrets that change the course of the tale.

This book was filled with more angst and darkness than the first two, while also being funnier and it was nice to laugh at the quips and jokes that were present; mirroring the development of the story along with the protagonists, ergo making it all the more enjoyable. Presently, this is my favourite of the series but that may change, as I continue my journey through the series. I always take pleasure in seeing an author’s skill flourish and bloom and Rowling has delineated this, so I hope to see this continue too.

Fortunately, my memory of this film adaption was fuzzy and missing chunks, so many of the reveals came as a surprise and shock- I especially loved the elements connected with the Marauders and finally know who they are after hearing their names float about the fandom. And all the reveals concerned with them were just so spectacular.

The lengths I would travel to owe a Marauder Map though! I fell in love with the idea of the map as soon as I knew of its existence. Just like Tom Riddle’s diary from the second book, this is my favourite item in the book.

I have to say, however, I don’t appreciate time travel- never have and never will but it didn’t conflict too much with the book, so I will let it pass.

My favourite characters have to be Professor Lupin and Sirius Black. I mean Lupin is the kind of teacher you want- full moons notwithstanding- he was amazing and I was sad to see him go but something tells me we’ll see him again. His leaving was pretty abrupt, could have at least given Harry a hug but hey, I hope to see him again. This also leads to the question of yet another Defence Against The Dark Arts Teacher, and I wonder who can fill that role. Snape could possibly but maybe a new teacher too?

And Sirus Black is in the limelight for the whole book- with all these tales about him and his supposedly dark side but the truth made me so happy, I couldn’t believe he was a bad guy at all. (Okay, maybe the film influenced me a little but still.) I can’t wait to see him again, he’s just really loveable; being someone who values loyalty and truth above all else really means a lot to me. Subsequently, anyone willing to die for others normally gets on my list of favourites.

Overall, this book gets five shining stars and I anticipate where this journey will take me next and am very glad that I don’t know much else that will happen now and have very limited spoilers. Excluding the fact I know a lot of what happens in the last book. *Sigh*

But nonetheless, it’s sure to be a bewitching -broom- ride.
